Honorary Consul To Peru
"I look forward to helping the Peruvian community here in Utah and strengthening all relationships between Utah and Peru." - David Utrilla
In 2009, U.S. Translation Company President David Utrilla was named Utah's Honorary Consul from Peru.
Born and raised in Lima, David immigrated to the United States in 1994 to continue his educaton before starting a language service business.
The need for an honorary consulate in Utah was evident as Peruvian immigrants represent the second largest group of immigrants in Utah, second only to Mexico. Prior to the Salt Lake City Consular opening, the closest consulate was in Denver, making things very difficult and inefficient for Peruvians in Utah that needed help with official documents, visas, passports, and other important information.
Utrilla's role as Honorary Consul to Peru serves two primary goals: To build and strengthen ties between the U.S. and Peru, and to help promote the local community:
-
Building Ties: Consul Utrilla acts to support economic, scientific, academic, commercial and cultural growth between the United States and Peru.
-
Promoting the Local Community: With the recent free-trade agreement, Utrilla promotes bi-lateral trade furthering the strategic growth of companies through crucial connections in business and politics. In addition, he supports educational and technological advancments and brings awareness to the cultures, cuisines, traditions, tourism and lifestyles of the people and communities he represents.
David Utrilla is deeply connected both personally and professionally in Peru and Utah. He travels back to his home country several times a year on vacation to see family; as well as to pursue business and philanthropic endeavors.
