WIRELESS:
Wireless equipment is preferable, because it allows attendees to move
if necessary, especially in a large convention setting where numerous
languages are being interpreted.
WIRED:
Wired equipment is used in "round-table" type discussions where a
relatively small number of attendees take part and each must speak as
well as listen. This translation equipment is more expensive since each unit must
contain a microphone and a speaker or headphone.

FM PROS:
• Less expensive
• Hi quality & good range
• Excellent versatility
- Can be used with portable or table-top transmitters
• Blockage is not an issue
- The signal usually covers balcony & mezzanine levels
FM CONS:
•The signal travels outside of the room, so if more than one
room is used, and they are close, each room may need a separate channel.
•The signal travels outside of the room, therefore it is
possible for someone to eavesdrop.

INFRARED PROS:
• Excellent sound quality
• Signal does not leave the room
-Used for confidential meetings
-Multiple rooms can be on one channel
INFRARED CONS:
• Vulnerable to outside conditions
- Cannot be used in strong light
- Older systems don’t work with certain types of fluorescent
light.
- Cannot have infrared door openers in the same room
• Requires “line of sight” set-up
- Many emitters required in arena
- pillars block transmittion
• As you increase the number of languages, the range of each
emitter is reduced.
